The question
How could finished goods be arranged to use warehouse capacity more effectively while preserving access for material handling?
My role
As an Operations & Production Planning Intern, I studied jam production and finished-goods flow while supporting PPIC activities. My warehouse work focused on evaluating layouts and supporting FIFO.
The approach
Map the operation
Examined the existing finished-goods arrangement and how goods moved through the warehouse.
Evaluate alternatives
Assessed Shared Storage and Randomized Storage approaches, considering rack arrangement, pallet capacity, and forklift clearance.
Communicate the proposal
Documented the proposed layout with calculations and a 3D visualization, alongside recommendations for inventory flow.
What the work produced
The layout comparison reported storage utilization moving from 53.78% to 70.73%. The project connected storage-capacity analysis with the practical constraints of access and finished-goods movement.
